General Safety Information

– TRIPS members wear a PFD at all times

– waivers must be completed by anyone attending club trips

List of safety equipment as per Transport Canada regulations:
– Approved Personal Floatation Device (PFD) for all occupants
– Buoyant heaving line (throw bag)
– Audible warning device (whistle)
– Spare paddle
– Leash (Stand Up Paddle Board, Sit on Top, Surfski)
– Baileing device (pump for kayaks)

Recommended additional equipment & documents:

– emergency plan (includes special medical concerns)
– Trip plan (left at paddle compound, family or other agencies depending)
– Floatation (canoes) air bags, inner tubes
– Bow & Stern Lines (Canoe)….tied in and stowed
– Knife (canoe, kayak)…on person.
– first aid kit
– cell phone or other communication device (in stowed dry bag)
– dry suit (preferred), wet suit….in inclement weather – cold water
– dry clothes ( stowed in dry bag)
– nutrition (includes hydration) for extended journeys over 45 minutes
– adequate paddle clothing (weather dependant)
– medications (if needed)

Competitive Race Training and Events:
Exemptions to above equipment apply when:
– designated coach/safety vessel is in use holding safety gear, documents and coordinated
with Emergency Plan
– U19 – shall wear PFDS
