TRIPS Club Structure

The Thompson River Interior Paddling Society is a fun recreational club dedicated to introducing new people to canoeing. We are based in Kamloops but looking to expand our participation beyond to all communities in the Thompson Basin including Chase, Clearwater, Salmon Arm, Savona, Enderby, Vernon, etc. Our club boats are provided and paddling sessions are led by certified leaders to ensure fun, safety and skill development. A large part of our programs is recreational paddling, mostly in tandem canoes, nut also in our large voyageur canoes. We use our fleet of recreational gear to occasionally assist with community programming for school and youth groups. Marathon canoe racing is also a part of our club and we have certified coaches who lead these training sessions. T.R.I.P.S is open to participation amongst other paddling styles as well including kayaking and stand up paddle boarding.

T.R.I.P.S. was registered as a society in 2004 and is current.  The executive is comprised of President, Treasurer, Secretary and Members at Large. T.R.I.P.S. is affiliated with the Recreational Canoeing Association of BC  (RCABC) of who we are a club member. We purchase club liability insurance through the RCABC for our Executive and Trip Leaders. A.G.M.’s are conducted during the winter to decide on important club policy and to elect new Directors. The directors hold regular executive meetings throughout the year in order to plan our schedule of events and deal with issues pertaining to our operations, equipment, and storage compound

Presently, we have several leaders who all have experience and accreditation. However, due to the business of lives often the responsibility falls on too few.  In order to rectify this, we are always looking for new members who are capable of taking on a leadership roles such as Directors, Trip Leaders, Coaches, and general Volunteers.  We are prepared to pass on and share knowledge to achieve the above.

As our club grows, the more need we will have for leaders who are capable on rivers, lakes and the maintenance of our equipment. Becoming a Club Trip Leader is a great community contribution and is looked upon with respect and genuine gratitude.  Being a leader is not always easy though. and we provide proper training, education, planning and skill development we strive to make a sometimes challenging  duty manageable and help to limit risk. Let us know if you want to become a leader.
