4 of Kamloops paddling clubs are coming together with a common goal of developing a new centre for paddling at Pioneer Park. The city of Kamloops plans to undertake large redevelopment of the boat launch and may be open to some renovations and redevelopment of the paddling compounds. Also, the Kamloops Canoe and Kayak Club has reached an agreement with Wailua Outrigger club to share their spacer and to position a new trailer at Pioneer Park so that they can train and paddle more frequently on the River in town during the colder months of the year when Shumway Lake if iced over.
We have already begun with a meeting taking place at Pioneer Park on January 13th with representatives in attendance from all 4 clubs: TRIPS, Wailua, KCKC, and the Dragonboat club. This redevelopment could see the TRIPS trailers finding a new home with the other clubs south of the Rivers Trail and above the high water line. It is more likely that most major changes would take place in the spring of 2022. In the mean time more planning and sessions and meetings will take place among the fellowship of Kamloops Paddlng clubs so that we can have meaningful input for the city on how we envision the future of paddling at Pioneer Park. Possible upgrades could include new beach access, a washroom hut with power and water, newly configured boat compounds, etc. Our next planning meeting is set to take place in February of 2020.
